8vo; vii, 223 pgs. Includes author portrait and all 6 plates, with author promo at the end.

One of the earliest books on dentistry printed in Portugal. It gave advice on the care of the teeth, and became popular for a short time, enough to motivate a second edition the very next year in 1848.

de Vitry arrived in Lisbon in 1835, and established his practice shortly after, gaining esteem amongst the loyalty including, the Duchess of Bragança, Dona Maria II Queen of Portugal, and the Prince Consort Don Fernando.

His other books include; Observações claramente explicadas e desenvolvidas a cerca do tratamento dos dentes (1840), Manual do cirurgião-dentista ao alcance de todas as classes da sociedade (1843), Manual, ou, Vade-mecum da hygiene dental (1853).
